The ICC has finalized the selection process for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Twelve teams will get a direct place in the 20-team event in the World Cup to be held in West Indies and United States. However, the ICC had earlier announced to increase it from 18 to 20. The selection process was finalized on Sunday night after a two-day ICC board meeting in Dubai.

The top eight teams in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October-November this year will play directly in the 2024 edition. They will be joined by the West Indies and the United States. The other two teams will be eligible to play directly based on the T20 rankings on November 14. If West Indies are in the top eight in the next edition, three teams will get a chance from the rankings.

On the other hand, the remaining eight teams will have to make it through the regional qualifying round. The top two teams from Africa, Asia and Europe will advance to the World Cup. And one team will come from America and East Asia Pacific. Now 6 teams have taken a direct place in the main stage of the World Cup of 16 countries. The remaining 6 teams took part in the preliminary round divided into two groups. Later in the main episode, 10 teams played and were divided into two groups.

The ICC has also announced the selection process for the Women's 2024 Twenty20 World Cup. Eight teams will play directly in the 10-team tournament. The 6 teams will be determined from the two groups of the 2023 event. The top three teams from each of the other two groups will get a chance to play live (if the host team is not in it). The other two teams will be taken into consideration in the T20 rankings within the pre-determined time.

Besides, the team for the next ODI World Cup for girls will be selected based on the points table of the Women's Championship cycle of 2022-2025. In addition to the host country, the top five teams in the points table will take a direct place in the tournament. A selection round will be held to determine the remaining two teams in the eight-team event. On the other hand, for the first time, the ICC has decided to hold the Under-19 T20 World Cup for girls. The inaugural event is hosted by South Africa. The 41-match 16-team tournament will be played in January.
